You may give up meat. Read the book, you will be shocked. You may cry. This book was excellent. It's shocking, unadulterated, dirty truths that we ALL need to know. It's a real eye opener on just how cruel, filthy, and terrible the meat industry is. This is a must read for anyone who eats meat, or who doesn't. It's very easy to turn a blind eye when you eat a great steak or some chicken wings, but the only reason to eat meat is your taste buds.
Very informative and a quick read for those in a time crunch. No matter if you eat meat or not, this is a must read for everyone. Eisnitz investagates the truth of the meat packing industry and finds facts that will gross you out and make you really think about what's going into your mouth.
It was written like an investigative report. I had never thought about the human exploitation side of the meat industry. I was unsure about buying this book. The book has changed my life. I must warn you the thought of using any animal products for me or my family is out of the question now. I am an avid reader and had it suggested numerous times. The book is shockingly upsetting.
You will NOT regret reading this book. I read this book almost five years ago, and inspired me to become a vegetarian- literally overnight. Every single person that eats meat or not needs to read this book to educate themselves what their money supports, and what they put into their bodies by consuming these animals.
Exhaustive investigative work reveals the shocking truth of the appalling, unfortunate and inexcusable, ongoing heinous crimes committed everyday against defenseless domestic animals. An immense amount of gratitude to Ms. Eisnitz, helped me to become acutely aware of the gross and negligent violations of the Humane Slaughter Act committed in the vast majority of slaughterhouses throughout the U.S.
Equally alarming is the knowledge of the absolutely un-hygenic conditions that exist in most of these processing plants due to the lack of adequate supervision on the part of the USDA, the federal department that should have unbiased, independent (of the avaricious, private slaughterhouse companies and unscupulous, unethical private political agendas) inspectors present at these facilities to not only ensure against HSA violations, among other responbilities, but to watch out for negligence that could ultimately affect public health safety. Eisnitz for her extraordinary, valient efforts to stop the suffering that so many animals endure. Not to mention the unsafe, unjust, hazardous and dangerous work conditions that many slaughterhouse employees must endure.
Slaughterhouse, by Gail A. By exposing the constant HSA violations that agribusiness slaughterhouses like Carolina Foods, John Morell & Co., Kaplan, IBF, Tyson, Sun Prairie, Smithfield Foods Inc., et al., carry out on a daily basis, I have become informed of the atrocious inhumane handling and slaughter of domestic farm animals destined for human consumption. I highly recommend this book to all conscientious human beings and wholeheartedly pledge my support to this most noble cause.
If you consume any kind of meat or animal protein, you would be wise to read this book. This milestone tome has forever changed my life for the better as I have recently made a personal decision to become a Vegan.
